We are seeking an experienced Technical Officer to support the civil infrastructure projects within a local Government Department located in Ipswich.  Provide technical support in assessing applications for works on local government-controlled roads and traffic control permits. Undertake compliance monitoring and enforcement in relation to those permits and provide technical support in relation to councils traffic operation, road use management and road safety activities to ensure the safe and efficient operation of council’s transport network. This is a temporary assignment with the pay rate up to $56.52 per hour.

In this role you will be responsible for:

  • Assess applications for works on local government-controlled roads and applications for traffic control permits.
  • Respond to requests in relation to traffic management and road safety matters.
  • Conduct field investigations and audit compliance with permit requirements and prepare reports where necessary.
  • In conjunction with Branch management, develop and update operational procedures to reflect changes to legislation and best practice.
  • In conjunction with stakeholders, develop strategies to improve the traffic operation with road use related issues.
  • Liaise and consult with internal and external stakeholders (including the Department of Transport and Main Roads, Queensland Police Service, transport operators, residents, and business owners) regarding suitable outcomes and solutions to traffic related issues.
  • Assess permits for special events that will have an impact on the safe and efficient operation of the road network.
  • Provide back-up and support for other officers in Road Corridor Section.

Applicants will need to have the following:

  • Must have traffic implementation background and experience and or tertiary qualifications in relevant field
  • Possess a current Queensland ‘C’ Class licence
  • Current White Card Contruction Induction (visits on-site may be required)

Additional Requirements:

  • Substantial knowledge of traffic engineering principles, standards and guidelines.
  • Sound level of experience in the application of legislation, local laws, policies and procedures in a local government context to bring about appropriate outcomes.
  • Sound inspection, investigation, and information collection skills.
  • Substantial computer and database skills and knowledge of organisational system
  • Substantial interpersonal skills (both oral and written) communicating with a broad range of stakeholders to achieve and agreed direction regarding traffic management and road safety matters.
