We are seeking an organised and motivated Governance Officer to join a Local Government Governance Department in Ipswich. This role supports the delivery of effective governance, transparency and legislative compliance across the organisation. You will be responsible for the administration of governance frameworks, including policies and procedures, Right to Information and Information Privacy requests, Public Interest Disclosures, governance reporting and corporate compliance.
Working collaboratively across the organisation, you will help ensure legislative obligations are met while promoting governance best practice and continuous improvement.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage policies, procedures and governance documentation.
- Process Right to Information (RTI), Information Privacy (IP) and other legislative requests.
- Monitor legislative changes and provide governance advice.
- Administer Public Interest Disclosure (PID) matters and governance registers.
- Support conflicts of interest management and statutory reporting.
- Coordinate travel arrangements for employees and elected representatives.
- Contribute to governance projects and continuous improvement initiatives.
About You
You will have:
- Experience in governance, compliance, legal, public administration or local government.
- Demonstrated ability to interpret and apply legislation.
- Excellent written communication and organisational skills.
- Strong attention to detail and the ability to manage confidential information.
- Well-developed stakeholder engagement and problem-solving skills.
Desirable: Tertiary qualifications in Law, Governance, Public Administration, Policy Development, Business Management or a related discipline.
This role is based in the Ipswich office (minimum 3 days per week), with the option to work from home up to 2 days per week, subject to demonstrated capability and autonomy. The assignment is initially for 3 months, with a strong possibility of extension.
