Key takeaways from the June 2025 Jobs and Skills Australia Recruitment Insights Report:
- Recruitment activity eased slightly, with 44% of employers hiring in June. While this is down from a peak of 59% in July 2022, it is a 5% increase compared to the same time last year.
- Employer expectations for staffing remained steady, with 19% anticipating an increase in headcount over the next 3 months.
- Recruitment challenges persist, with 39% of employers reporting difficulty filling roles within a month.
The Jobs and Skills Australia Vacancy Report (June 2025) also highlighted that online job ads rose by 1.9% last month (both in Queensland and nationally), with growth across all major occupations and most states (Technicians and Trade Workers had the strongest increase).
And while we’re talking about trades… skills shortages are a continuing problem. Despite a softening market, there is still plenty of competition for talent. HRD reports the Build a Life in WA Incentive has received over 1000 claims from tradespeople taking advantage of the cash bonus scheme of up to $10,000 to relocate west (with many of them being lured from Queensland, NSW, Victoria and NZ). Getting your offer right to nail down your tradies when it comes to attraction and retention is still important – connect today if you would like to engage us to help with market scanning and salary benchmarking.
